During a meeting with journalists from Greater Mymensingh in Dhaka, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to address the region's infrastructural deficits, healthcare challenges, and other civic issues. The meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat highlighted the urgency for regional collaboration to overcome the longstanding neglect and backwardness of Greater Mymensingh.
Khan Choudhury stressed the importance of journalists playing a crucial role in highlighting these issues, urging them to ensure patient services in hospitals and prevent irregularities. He pointed out that corruption is not confined to financial sectors but also includes service deprivation, which needs to be addressed through journalistic efforts. The state minister also mentioned a proposal to construct a standard press club with modern facilities at the district level across Bangladesh.
The state minister disclosed that an application signed by 34 members of parliament from the Mymensingh division has been submitted to extend the expressway or flyover from Dhaka airport to Bhaluka. This proposal is currently awaiting policy decision and approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). Additionally, preliminary discussions are underway to establish a high-speed train connection with Mymensingh and modernize the Mymensingh Railway Station.
Several journalists from Mymensingh participated in the meeting, including Erfanul Haque Nahid, Masudul Haque, Rafiq Muhammad, Anisur Rahman Khan, Ubaidullah Badal, Hamidul Haque Manik, Shafiul Alam Dolan, Masud Karim, Md Golam Kibria, Mahmudul Hasan, and Baharam Khan. They shared their insights and concerns about the region's development and the role of media in this process.
Khan Choudhury's call for regional cooperation underscores the government's commitment to improving the living standards of the people in Greater Mymensingh. By engaging with the media, the state minister aims to ensure transparency and address the infrastructural and service-related challenges facing the region.
