Nazrul Dance Festival to Enchant Dhaka This Weekend at Shilpakala Academy

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is set to host the 'Nazrul Dance Festival-2026' as part of the 'Nazrul Year' celebrations.

As the sun sets on September 12, the National Music and Dance Centre of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will be abuzz with the vibrant energy of the 'Nazrul Dance Festival-2026'. Organized as part of the 'Nazrul Year' celebrations, this two-day event promises an immersive experience into the multifaceted creative world of Kazi Nazrul Islam through the lens of contemporary dance.

The festival, open to all dance enthusiasts, will commence at 6:30 pm. New dance productions will bring to life Nazrul’s songs, rhythms, emotions, love, rebellion, the ideals of equality, and the spirit of humanity. The evening will be a creative dialogue between dance and the profound legacy of Nazrul Islam.

Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury will inaugurate the festival as the chief guest on September 12. Cultural Affairs Secretary Yasmin Begum will chair the event, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam and Policy and Strategy Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman will attend as special guests. Shilpakala Academy Director General Rezauddin Stalin will deliver the welcome address, and academy Secretary Mohammad Zakir Hossain will give the vote of thanks.

The second session of the program will begin at 7:30 pm, marking the start of an evening filled with artistic expressions inspired by Nazrul’s works. The festival not only celebrates the life and works of Kazi Nazrul Islam but also fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of his contributions to Bengali culture and literature.

Kazi Nazrul Islam, often referred to as the 'Rebel Poet', is a towering figure in Bengali literature and culture. His works are known for their passionate rebellion against oppression, deep love for humanity, and fervent desire for equality. Through this dance festival, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy aims to keep his spirit alive and inspire a new generation of artists and audiences.
