Legendary singer Runa Laila performed her first-ever solo concert at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious 62-year musical career. The academy also honoured the celebrated singer with a special reception in recognition of her remarkable contribution to music.
Milestone Performance
The concert, titled "Shilpi Ami Tomaderi Gaan Sonabo," began with the song of the same name, after which Runa Laila performed ten of her most popular songs. Her performance captivated the audience and reflected the artistry that has made her one of South Asia's most admired singers. Now 74, Runa Laila demonstrated that music is more than entertainment, embodying artistic excellence, humanity, and patriotism. Audience members praised her effortless performance, with many describing her as an unparalleled artist.
Solidarity and Recognition
The concert was dedicated to expressing solidarity with people affected by the recent floods across the country. Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury attended the event as the chief guest, while Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, poet Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin, presided over the programme. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kanij Fatema attended as special guests. The programme was hosted by noted dramatist Afzal Hossain.
