A Sydney court dismissed on Wednesday a defamation case against Australian film star Rebel Wilson, brought by another actor, Charlotte MacInnes. MacInnes accused Wilson of defaming her in 2024 by suggesting she had altered an account of being a victim of sexual harassment to advance her career. The case centered around an incident where MacInnes and the film's producer and financier, Amanda Ghost, shared a bath after swimming at Bondi Beach. Wilson alleged that MacInnes had complained about feeling uncomfortable the next day.

Court Findings and Judgement

Justice Elizabeth Raper dismissed the case, ordering MacInnes to pay costs. The court found that Wilson's Instagram post, which suggested MacInnes 'changed her story,' was not defamatory and was substantially true. Raper noted the unusual circumstances of the bath incident and emphasized that Ghost, a 49-year-old woman, should have recognized the inappropriateness of her conduct.

Wilson's Response

Following the judgement, Wilson expressed gratitude to the judge and the Australian legal system on Instagram, calling it a'substantial win.' She stated her eagerness to return to her family and work.
