Dr. Zubaida Rahman Advocates for Zia Memorial Library in Every Bangladeshi Village

DHAKA — Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of the Prime Minister and Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, today expressed her aspiration to bring the Zia Memorial Library to every village in Bangladesh. Speaking at the inauguration of the 'Zia Memorial Book Fair-2026' at Bangla Academy, she emphasized the importance of instilling a reading habit among children and juveniles. Dr Zubaida believes that reading books will help children develop essential values such as justice, honesty, dedication, and tolerance.

'If the habit of reading books is developed among children, they will acquire values, justice, honesty, dedication, and tolerance. Their tendency to respect others will also grow up,' Dr Zubaida stated. She highlighted the significance of books written on the lives of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia, noting that these books contain stories of their struggles, sacrifices, perseverance, patience, courage, and patriotism.

The Zia Memorial Book Fair-2026 was organized by the central committee of the Zia Memorial Library to mark the 48th anniversary of the BNP. The fair aims to promote and disseminate books that reflect the policies, ideals, and life of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Dr Zubaida expressed hope that the children will gain patience and find ways to establish themselves in society through the habit of reading.

During her speech, Dr Zubaida recited a portion of her poem 'Tumi Nirbhik,' dedicated to the memory of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. She thanked the organizers for arranging the book fair and wished them overall success. Following her speech, she officially inaugurated the book fair and visited the stalls.

The event was presided over by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator Bir Muktijoddha Abdus Salam, with JCD central organizing secretary Amanullah Aman moderating. Notable attendees included Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, National Prof Mahbub Ullah, BNP Standing Committee Member Forhad Halim Donar, and others. The fair is expected to play a significant role in promoting literacy and the values embodied by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
