Charge-Framing Hearing in Tulip Siddiq Flat Acquisition Case Set for Jan 11

A Dhaka court has set January 11, 2027, for the charge-framing hearing in the case against Tulip Siddiq, niece of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, over the alleged illegal acquisition of a flat in Gulshan-2. Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 fixed the date following a High Court order staying the trial for one year after a plea to quash the case was filed.

Former assistant legal adviser of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Sardar Mosharraf Hossain is another accused in the case. The case was transferred to Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 on April 8, 2026, after a gazette notice was issued summoning the two accused on March 8.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on April 15, 2025, against Tulip Siddiq, Mosharraf Hossain, and his colleague Shah Md Khasruzzaman for allegedly taking a flat from Eastern Housing Limited without payment. The court issued arrest warrants for Tulip Siddiq and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain on February 18, 2026, but police reported they had failed to arrest the accused.

According to the case documents, the accused are alleged to have abused their authority to take possession of a flat owned by Eastern Housing Limited in Gulshan-2 without making any payment and later had it registered in their names. The ACC submitted the charge sheet against Tulip Siddiq and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain on December 11, 2025.

The case has significant implications for Bangladesh, as it involves allegations of corruption and abuse of authority by individuals connected to high-profile political figures. The outcome of the charge-framing hearing will be closely watched, given the political connections of the accused and the broader implications for accountability and governance in the country.

The Anti-Corruption Commission plays a crucial role in investigating and prosecuting corruption cases in Bangladesh. Its actions are aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in public and private sectors. The commission's involvement in this case underscores the importance of holding individuals accountable for alleged corrupt practices.
