Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs, emphasized that Sheikh Hasina will eventually have to return to Bangladesh and face trial under the country's existing legal framework. Helal made these remarks as the chief guest at an event organized by the Chattogram District Bar Association, titled 'Bloody Red July and New Bangladesh'.
Hasina's Return and Political Future
Helal Uddin highlighted that there is no substantial basis for the notion that Sheikh Hasina will re-enter politics after her return to Bangladesh. He underscored that as long as leaders and activists from the political parties that opposed autocracy remain active, Sheikh Hasina's aspirations will remain unfulfilled.
BNP's Reform Efforts
The minister clarified that BNP's intention to implement state reforms is genuine. He mentioned that BNP had previously announced a 31-point state reform program in July 2023, which was later updated in alignment with the national reform program. Helal also noted that 114 ordinances were passed in the first session of the National Parliament shortly after the government's formation.
Role of Chattogram Lawyers
Praising the contributions of Chattogram lawyers in the July Mass Uprising, Helal emphasized their relentless participation in the movement both on the streets and in the courts. He assured that the nation will remember their contributions with respect.
