Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain has urged Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders and workers to remain united, stating that unity is crucial for winning both national and local government elections. Speaking at an exchange-of-views meeting with district BNP leaders at Nilphamari Circuit House, he emphasized the importance of party discipline, internal unity, and public confidence. Dr Zahid highlighted that engaging in mudslinging would alienate common people, stressing the need for integrity and loyalty to the leadership. He called for strengthening the organization with committed individuals and assigning leadership responsibilities to tested members who remain steadfast during difficult times. Engineer Shahrin Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, convener of the Association of Engineers Bangladesh, chaired the meeting, which was attended by district BNP and affiliated organization leaders.

Call for Unity and Discipline

Dr Zahid Hossain underscored that the BNP's success hinges on its ability to maintain unity and discipline. He pointed out that the party's history shows that it moves forward with everyone's support and that this collective effort is essential for achieving electoral success. The minister's remarks come at a critical time as the party prepares for local government elections, where internal cohesion will play a significant role in garnering public support.

Importance of Public Confidence

During his address, Dr Zahid emphasized the necessity of winning public confidence. He warned that if the party engages in negative campaigning or mudslinging, it risks losing the support of the common people. Instead, he advocated for a positive and united front that reflects the party's commitment to its politics and ideology. This approach, he believes, will resonate with voters and contribute to the party's success in the upcoming elections.

Leadership and Commitment

The minister also called for giving leadership responsibilities to individuals who have proven their commitment and resilience. He stressed that tested leaders who remain firm during challenging times are crucial for steering the party towards victory. Dr Zahid encouraged BNP members to maintain patience, loyalty, and respect for the leadership, highlighting that the party's resurgence has been driven by dedicated leaders, workers, and the people's support.

Why This Matters for Bangladesh

The call for unity within the BNP is significant for Bangladesh's political landscape. Local government elections play a crucial role in shaping the governance and development of districts across the country. A united and disciplined BNP can potentially influence these elections, leading to more effective local governance. Additionally, the minister's emphasis on integrity and public confidence underscores the importance of ethical leadership in political parties, which is vital for the overall political health of the nation.
