Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called for building a new Bangladesh committed to democracy, equality, human dignity, and public welfare while preventing any recurrence of authoritarianism and fascism. Speaking at a discussion organized by the Sylhet District unit of BNP at Sylhet District Shilpakala Academy to mark the party's 48th founding anniversary, Salahuddin emphasized the need for constitutional reforms to ensure that military autocracy, fascism, or any evil force cannot rise again in the country.
Salahuddin highlighted that under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership, the government is working to establish a democratic state structure free from discrimination and based on equality. He mentioned that initiatives such as Family Cards and Farmer Cards under the government's 'I Have a Plan' programme are being implemented to strengthen social protection.
The minister recalled the nearly five-decade history of the BNP, marked by movements, struggles, achievements, and development. He emphasized the party's contributions to women's education, youth employment, and social reforms. Salahuddin urged citizens to unite, practice democracy, eliminate social discrimination, and contribute to building a state dedicated to public welfare.
Commerce, Industry, Jute, and Textiles Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, speaking as the chief guest, said the government is committed to achieving economic prosperity by following the development and production-oriented politics of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He noted that resolving economic challenges, including those related to electricity and energy, remains a government priority.
Several BNP leaders, including BNP Chairman's Advisory Council Members Md Abdul Malik MP and Dr. Md. Enamul Haque Chowdhury, and BNP Central Committee Assistant Organizing Secretary Miftah Siddiqui, were present at the event. Their presence underscored the importance of the occasion and the collective effort towards achieving the party's vision for Bangladesh.
