Dr. Zahid: Bangladesh's Development Linked to BNP's Time in Power

Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said Bangladesh witnessed development and progress whenever the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was in power. He emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, development and progress are moving forward in the country at all levels. Dr Zahid made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the District BNP marking the party's 48th founding anniversary at the Institute Ground premises in Dinajpur town.

Dr Zahid's Remarks on BNP's Role in Development

In his speech, Dr Zahid highlighted the contributions of the BNP to the nation's development. He stated, "The government is working to ensure services to all citizens regardless of religion or caste." He also paid tribute to the party's founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and the late BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, for their roles in the country's progress.

Historical Context and Contributions

Dr Zahid recalled the sacrifices made by BNP leaders and activists, mentioning that about 800 leaders and activists have been victims of enforced disappearance or murder in the last 19 years. He honored those who were martyred in the great war of independence and those who suffered dishonor. He also remembered the sacrifices of agitators and innocent people who participated in movements before and after August 5, 2024.

He credited Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for bravely fighting in the great war of independence and bringing independence to the country. Ziaur Rahman, he said, started working for the development of the people after taking custody of the country following the Sepoy Revolution on November 7, 1975. Dr Zahid noted that Ziaur Rahman founded the BNP on September 1, 1978, in Ramna Batamul, Dhaka, after re-establishing democracy and giving back the right to conduct politics to banned parties.

Addressing Current Challenges

Dr Zahid addressed current challenges facing the nation, particularly the electricity crisis, which he attributed to the previous fascist Awami League government. He assured that the current government is working relentlessly to resolve the crisis and hopes the people will soon benefit from these efforts. He also mentioned that there is no fertilizer crisis but warned against attempts to create an artificial one.

Why This Matters for Bangladesh

Dr Zahid's statements underscore the BNP's narrative of being a key driver of Bangladesh's development. By linking the country's progress to the party's governance, he reinforces the BNP's political stance and its appeal to voters. This narrative is crucial as it shapes public perception and influences political discourse in the country.
