Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu has underscored the necessity of maintaining joint partnerships with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other international development partners to modernize the land management system in Bangladesh. This includes the introduction of one-stop services and ensuring transparency. Minu made these remarks during a courtesy call by UNDP Resident Representative Stephen Rodriques at his Secretariat office.
The meeting was also attended by State Minister for Land Barrister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, Senior Land Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed, and senior officials from UNDP. Minu called for enhanced cooperation and institutional investment in advanced technological support, training, and research in the field of land management.
During the meeting, State Minister Helal Uddin briefed the UNDP resident representative on various plans for land management and its digitalization in Bangladesh. He highlighted the digitalization of land services as a significant achievement, noting that it empowers citizens and enhances transparency by reducing the influence of middlemen.
UNDP Resident Representative Stephen Rodriques expressed his commitment to working closely with the Bangladesh government, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and local communities. He emphasized the goal of accelerating inclusive development, strengthening disaster resilience, and advancing progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Rodriques stated, 'I want to work together with the Bangladesh government, the people of this country, and our development partners so that all our previous achievements can be sustained and, building on them, new, sustainable, and inclusive solutions can be developed that directly benefit the people.'
The collaboration between Bangladesh and UNDP is crucial for the ongoing modernization of land management. Digitalization of land services not only streamlines processes but also ensures greater transparency and reduces corruption. This partnership is expected to bring about significant improvements in land administration, benefiting both the government and the citizens of Bangladesh.
