President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was given a warm reception by the residents of Thakurgaon during his two-day visit to his hometown. This marks his first visit since his election as the head of the state last month. A massive crowd gathered at Boromath in the district town for the civic reception organized in his honor. President Alamgir emphasized the importance of communication, industrialization, employment generation, and expanded education facilities for the development of Thakurgaon.
During the reception, President Alamgir highlighted the need to reopen the airport in Thakurgaon, stating that it would facilitate business and trade. He noted that economic activities in the area need to be vibrant to make the airport functional and sustainable. The President expressed regret that the district still lacks major factories and industries, leading to joblessness among the people.
President Alamgir announced his expectation to bring investors to establish agro-based industries in Thakurgaon, hoping that the reopening of the currently inoperative airport would develop the communication system and create employment opportunities. He recalled the visit of the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh and anticipated Chinese experts and investors to visit Thakurgaon to set up agro-based industries.
The President mentioned the significant development in agriculture through the Barendra Multipurpose Development Programme, which has created scopes for developing agro-based industries in the district. He urged local entrepreneurs to make united efforts to boost local investment, assuring them of his overall cooperation.
As part of his visit schedule, President Alamgir is set to lay the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University tomorrow. He informed that the process of establishing a public university in Thakurgaon has advanced, with land acquired and paid for, and a vice chancellor appointed. The President also announced plans for a medical college, a sports village, and new playgrounds at the upazila and union levels.
President Alamgir called upon the youth communities to become entrepreneurs and create employment opportunities, praising women who have emerged as entrepreneurs. He urged the youths to build a strong movement against drugs and directed the district administration and lawmakers to make efforts to make Thakurgaon a drug-free area. The President emphasized the need to build a society through love and communal harmony, avoiding conflicts and confrontations.
