In a recent high-level roundtable in Dhaka, Standard Chartered Bangladesh and UK Export Finance (UKEF) discussed ways to accelerate the Bangladesh-UK trade corridor. The event brought together senior representatives from various sectors including pharmaceuticals, light engineering, agribusiness, seafood, and footwear. The primary focus was on exploring practical use cases for UKEF-backed financing in Bangladesh, structuring export credit facilities, and aligning project pipelines with development priorities.

Standard Chartered Bangladesh CEO Enamul Huque emphasized the bank's long-standing commitment to Bangladesh's growth, noting its 120-year partnership. He highlighted the importance of deepening trade and investment ties with strategic partners like the United Kingdom as Bangladesh moves towards its next phase of development. Huque stated, 'Through today's roundtable, we are reinforcing our commitment to connect Bangladesh with the world and the world with Bangladesh.'

The collaboration aims to bring UK expertise, technology, and capital to Bangladeshi clients. UKEF representatives used the opportunity to hear directly from government and business leaders, exploring how UK companies, expertise, and finance could support innovation, growth, and development in Bangladesh. Standard Chartered, with its extensive presence and expertise in the country, seeks to be UKEF's leading partner in connecting Bangladeshi corporates, financial institutions, and public-sector entities with UK suppliers, technology, and capital.

The initiative is also aimed at fostering export diversification and enabling businesses to access UK goods and services, modernize operations, and enhance productivity in line with international standards. By leveraging UKEF's export credit facilities, Bangladeshi businesses can gain better access to financing, which is crucial for scaling operations and entering new markets.

The roundtable discussions underscored the potential for UKEF-backed financing to play a pivotal role in Bangladesh's export diversification agenda. By aligning project pipelines with development priorities such as infrastructure, sustainability, and industrial upgrading, both organizations aim to create a more robust and diversified trade corridor between the UK and Bangladesh.
