In an effort to improve the migration system and protect the rights of migrant workers, Bangladesh's Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury met with British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke. The meeting, held in Dhaka, emphasized the importance of creating skilled and quality human resources, ensuring safe employment, and protecting the rights and dignity of migrant workers.

Chowdhury highlighted the need for joint efforts between the two countries to develop skilled and internationally competitive manpower. He expressed expectations for UK assistance in English language, technical, and vocational training, tailored to meet the demands of the UK and European labour markets.

State Minister Md. Nurul Haque suggested linking training centers in Bangladesh with various UK institutions to create skilled manpower. He emphasized the continuity of sustainable rehabilitation and social reintegration of returnee migrant workers through the ongoing 'RISE' project, implemented in partnership with FCDO, ILO, and the World Bank.

High Commissioner Sarah Cooke expressed interest in collaborating with the Bangladesh government to develop skilled manpower according to international labour market demands. She also stressed the UK's concerns regarding safe, regular, and cost-effective labour migration from Bangladesh and discussed efforts to strengthen cooperation to improve the migration system.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to ensuring that migration is managed safely and effectively, protecting the welfare of migrant workers, and creating opportunities for skilled employment. The collaboration aims to address the challenges of irregular migration and enhance the quality of human resources.

The discussions also touched on the importance of vocational training and ensuring that the skills developed in Bangladesh align with the needs of the international labour market. This initiative is expected to benefit both countries by creating a skilled workforce and ensuring the safe and dignified migration of workers.
