The country's voter count has reached 12.86 crore as of July 31, according to the Election Commission (EC). This substantial figure reflects a significant increase of 309,315 voters from the previous count in May, setting the stage for the local government elections.

During a briefing in Agargaon, the EC Senior Secretary announced that the updated voter list will be used for the local government elections, subject to any future changes in the election schedule. The rules of conduct for various local government bodies have already been forwarded to the Ministry of Law.

The EC also disclosed that the submission of nomination papers for the presidential election began today. Notably, a delegation from the BNP party was the first to collect nomination papers, with no other parties or candidates having approached for them yet.

The EC highlighted that the amendment to the election law is still under process, but once finalized, it will be sent to the relevant authorities. The commission is committed to ensuring that all legal frameworks are in place to conduct free and fair elections.

The local government elections are anticipated to be a crucial event, with the updated voter list and new rules of conduct aiming to enhance the electoral process. The BNP's early move to collect nomination papers suggests a competitive presidential election ahead.

The EC's proactive steps in preparing for the elections reflect its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the democratic process. As the country gears up for these significant events, the updated voter list and new rules are expected to play a pivotal role.
