From Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Zia family has been instrumental in Chattogram's political and social advancement. Their profound connection to the region has driven numerous initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Chattogram's residents.

Historical Significance

Major General Ziaur Rahman declared Bangladesh's independence from the Kalurghat Radio Station in Chattogram during the Liberation War of 1971. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of the nation's journey to independence and established a deep-rooted connection between the Zia family and Chattogram.

Continued Commitment

Begum Khaleda Zia, the nation's first female Prime Minister, and her son, the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, have both maintained a strong focus on Chattogram. Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Chattogram on August 9, where he plans to present new homes to flood-affected families, distribute relief supplies, and provide cash assistance to individuals with disabilities.

Political leaders and observers in Chattogram emphasize the Zia family's dedication to the region. Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, the Member of Parliament for Chattogram-5, notes that the family's legacy is deeply cherished by the people of Chattogram. Golam Akbar Khandaker, a longtime political ally, highlights that Ziaur Rahman established the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Chattogram, further cementing the region's importance in the family's political endeavors.
