On the afternoon of August 9, 2026, Biman Bangladesh Airlines' flight BG-306 touched down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, bringing an end to a nearly 40-hour disruption. The flight had been stranded at Rome's Fiumicino Airport due to a technical fault that grounded the aircraft. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which was operating the Toronto-Rome-Dhaka route, was finally cleared to depart Rome at 11:00 pm local time following necessary repairs and safety checks.
The disruption began when the aircraft developed a technical issue, leaving passengers stranded in Rome. In response, Biman dispatched a team of engineers and spare parts to Rome aboard flight BG-305. The engineers worked diligently to repair the aircraft, ensuring all technical and safety inspections were completed before the flight could resume its journey to Dhaka.
Throughout the prolonged delay, Biman took extensive measures to ensure the comfort and well-being of the affected passengers. State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat confirmed that around 100 passengers were transferred to hotels in Rome, while the rest were accommodated at the airport lounge. Special care was provided to the sick, elderly, and families with young children, including arranging necessary medical supplies.
Bangladesh Embassy officials in Rome maintained round-the-clock contact with the airport and closely monitored the situation. Continuous coordination was also maintained from Dhaka to ensure the smooth handling of the incident. Biman arranged hotel accommodations, meals, and other necessary assistance for the passengers during the disruption.
Biman reiterated that passenger safety remained its top priority throughout the ordeal. The successful completion of the repairs and the safe arrival of the flight in Dhaka highlighted the airline's commitment to resolving technical issues promptly and ensuring the safety and comfort of its passengers.
