Rail communication between Rajshahi and the rest of the country returned to normal at around 3:30 pm today after an eight-hour blockade by Rajshahi University students. The students had blocked the railway line demanding punishment for Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) Suman, accused of beating a student on a train, and a fair investigation into the incident.
Following an emergency meeting at the Divisional Commissioner's office, the students' demands were accepted. TTE Suman has been temporarily suspended, and two investigation committees have been formed to look into the incident. Additionally, arrangements have been made for the victim student to receive treatment at the Railway Hospital or Rajshahi Medical College Hospital if preferred.
The meeting also decided to start the stoppage of intercity trains at Rajshahi University station late at night. Another meeting is scheduled for August 6 to review the overall progress. The blockade, which began on Tuesday morning, caused significant disruption, with trains stuck at various stations and hundreds of passengers affected.
The resumption of train services has brought relief to commuters who had faced considerable inconvenience due to the blockade. The swift resolution of the students' demands highlights the effectiveness of dialogue between the administration, railway authorities, and university representatives in addressing grievances.
