Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain visited the family of Kanika Mondal, who passed away after experiencing severe complications following childbirth. Kanika, 35, was admitted to a private maternity hospital in Faridpur for a caesarean operation three months ago. After the operation, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain and was later admitted to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. Doctors found gauze-like materials inside her abdomen, which were subsequently removed through surgery. Despite the efforts, Kanika passed away while undergoing treatment.

Upon receiving the news of Kanika's death, the health minister went to Ibn Sina Hospital and later visited the bereaved family at their home in Baliakandi, Rajbari. He expressed his condolences and assured the family that the government would provide all possible assistance. The minister also promised a thorough investigation if any negligence or medical error was found to have contributed to Kanika's death.

During his visit, Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain highlighted the government's commitment to addressing existing problems in the health sector. He mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is highly focused on improving the health sector. The minister's visit was attended by several local officials, including Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parvin, Civil Surgeon Dr SM Masud, and Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Baliakandi.

Kanika's death has left her family and the local community in grief. The incident has raised concerns about the quality of healthcare services in the region. The family reported that a significant amount of gauze and bandage material was found inside Kanika's abdomen, suggesting possible medical negligence.

The health minister's assurance of support and investigation aims to provide some solace to the grieving family and to address the broader issues within the healthcare system. The government's response indicates a commitment to improving patient safety and holding healthcare providers accountable for their actions.
