Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 179,000 Burmese Yaba tablets during an anti-drug operation near the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban. The operation was conducted by the Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) at the Jaruliachhari border outpost. The seized drugs, valued at approximately 30.237 million BDT, were found abandoned in a cashew orchard near the border pillar 47/3-S.

Operation Details

The BGB patrol team conducted a special anti-drug operation in the responsible border area. They took up a covert position in the cashew orchard near the border pillar 47/3-S. During the operation, several smugglers attempted to bring a consignment of Yaba from Myanmar into Bangladesh. Upon being challenged by the BGB, the smugglers fled, abandoning their consignment.

The BGB members subsequently searched the area and seized 179,000 Yaba tablets packed in 10 cartons. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is 30.237 million BDT.

Ongoing Efforts

The BGB continues its operations to ensure border security, prevent smuggling and human trafficking, control infiltration, recover illegal arms, and stop drug trafficking. The force remains committed to the government's 'zero tolerance' policy against drugs. Enhanced vigilance and patrolling have been implemented in border areas to prevent smuggling.

Background on Yaba

Yaba, a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, is a highly addictive stimulant drug. It is commonly smuggled from Myanmar into Bangladesh and other Southeast Asian countries. The drug has severe health and social consequences, contributing to increased crime rates and public health issues.
