In a recent meeting, State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, underscored the importance of implementing significant and feasible projects for the local population of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). Helal stressed that instead of undertaking excessive projects, the focus should be on meaningful and realistic initiatives that benefit the region.

Highlighting Key Proposals for CHT Development

During the meeting held at the Chattogram Hill Tracts Complex Bhaban, Helal outlined several crucial proposals for the overall development of the CHT region. These include increasing organic fruit orchards, agriculture, and fruit processing facilities. He also highlighted the necessity of constructing cold storage and dry fruit processing units, which are expected to generate new employment opportunities at the local level.

Focus on Education and Sports Infrastructure

Addressing the lack of quality teachers for subjects like mathematics, science, and English, Helal suggested using multi-media classrooms and recorded classes run by a central satellite to improve education in the CHT. Additionally, he emphasized the construction of district-based stadiums and sports grounds at the upazila level to ensure regular training for athletes.

Essential Facilities in CHT

State Minister for Planning, Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, who attended the function as the guest of honor, stressed the importance of ensuring cold storage, healthcare, pure drinking water, and toilet facilities in the CHT region. The meeting was attended by Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman, additional secretary M Manirul Islam, CHT Development Board vice-chairman Sheikh Saleh Ahammad, and other senior officials.
