Chattogram District Council Administrator Mahbuber Rahman Shamim announced that the council will support the promotion of sports, debate, and educational activities among students, within its capacity. Speaking as the chief guest at the opening of the 3rd NGHSDS National Asian Parliamentary Debate Competition-2026 at Nasirabad Government High School, Shamim highlighted the significant decline in sports practice among students and stressed the need to revive this culture. He invited organizers of debate competitions, sports events, and educational activities to approach him for support, assuring accessibility to students and teachers during his tenure.
Shamim urged students to develop the habit of expressing their views through logical and reasoned arguments, emphasizing that debates should allow participants to present arguments and counterarguments without resorting to intolerance or violence. He noted that the identity of who supports or opposes a position is secondary to the ability to present one's viewpoint with sound reasoning.
The inaugural session of the debate competition was chaired by senior teacher Biplob Das. Special guests included Muhammad Saiful Alam, convener of Chattogram Metropolitan Chhatra Dal, and several other prominent figures such as Minhajul Islam, Kamruddin Sabuj, Abu Junayed Asad, Israt Jahan Shampa, and Dr. Mehjabin Mahi.
