Khulna University VC Calls for Digital Transformation in Education

Khulna University's Vice-Chancellor highlights the necessity of digital transformation in education to enhance educators' knowledge and skills.

Khulna University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim has emphasized the critical need for digital transformation in the education sector. Speaking at a workshop titled "Empowering Educators through Digital Knowledge Enhancement under the HIEP Project," he asserted that the rapid advancement of information technology necessitates digital transformation. The workshop aimed to enhance teachers' digital knowledge and skills and was organized by KU's ICT Cell in collaboration with Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

KU's Digital Transformation Initiatives

KU has been proactive in adopting digital transformation, introducing several initiatives such as smart classrooms, digital attendance, and e-nothi services under digital administration. Additionally, the university has established smart laboratories and an innovation hub. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to integrate technology into education and administrative processes.

Workshop Highlights and Participation

The workshop featured technical sessions on various topics, including cyber security awareness, generative AI for teaching and research, e-journals and plagiarism, and AI applications in higher education. Conducted by experts such as HEAT Project Technical Specialist Prof Dr Mohammad Shafiul Alam Khan and BdREN's Md Ariful Islam Arman, these sessions provided valuable insights and practical knowledge. Around 60 teachers, including deans and heads of disciplines, participated in the workshop, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing their digital capabilities.

KU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Nurunnabi, speaking as a special guest, emphasized the importance of not only adapting to technology but also learning its effective use. He highlighted the need for greater awareness about BdREN services and advocated for automation in human resource management, pension, and financial management to increase transparency and accountability.

Deputy Project Director of HEAT Prof Md Asaduzzaman and KU ICT Cell Director Prof Dr Sheikh Alomgir Hossain also spoke at the event. BdREN General Manager (Systems and Services) K. Rashedul Arefin presented on the scope of the HEAT Project and various BdREN services, while BdREN Manager (Sales) Biplab Chandra Mahanta delivered the welcome address.
