Amidst a rapidly evolving technological landscape, Chittagong University (CU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan emphasized the necessity for clear policies on the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking at the event 'AI for All', held at the university's Faculty of Business Administration auditorium, Prof. Forkan stated that AI is an irreversible force that must be harnessed responsibly.
Prof. Forkan noted that AI is permeating various sectors, including the judicial system, healthcare, climate change research, traffic management, marine research, and data analysis. The introduction of new AI tools into academic activities has become commonplace, underscoring the need for comprehensive policies to guide their use.
“AI technology is opening up new possibilities in various fields, including the judicial system, healthcare, climate change research, traffic management, marine research, and data analysis. Therefore, it is extremely important to formulate policies to determine the limits, ethics, and acceptability of AI use,” Prof. Forkan explained.
Recognizing AI as a global phenomenon, Prof. Forkan pointed out that its influence is not confined to Bangladesh or CU but is a reality for sectors worldwide, including education, research, administration, and technology. He stressed that AI is a key driver of future development and innovation.
CU Pro-VC (Education) Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin, speaking as a special guest, added that AI, control systems, and robotics are interconnected and will be pivotal in the technology-driven future. The program was chaired by CU Office for International Affairs Director Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahab Uddin and moderated by AI Navigator and AI Confidence Communication Officer Su-Prova Islam.
Organized by 'Send a Little Hope' in collaboration with the CU Office for International Affairs, the event brought together educators, researchers, and students to discuss the ethical implications and potential of AI in various fields.
