Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has urged the country's youth to pursue technical education and use their skills to create employment opportunities for themselves. Speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony in Rangpur, he highlighted the shortage of skilled workers as a barrier to sending unemployed youths abroad as manpower. Dulu believes that training workers and earning foreign currency through their skills would benefit both the country and their families.
Addressing Unemployment Through Skills Development
The minister was addressing a ceremony organized by the Engineers Institute of Technology (EIT) at the Rangpur Shilpakala Academy auditorium. The event aimed to distribute work equipment and job certificates among trained youths and women to support their employment and self-employment. Dulu stressed that the government is placing special emphasis on technical education and providing training in various trades through institutions across the Rangpur division, including EIT.
Dulu noted that training should go beyond obtaining certificates. Trainees should be supported in using their skills for employment and self-employment. He argued that creating skilled manpower would decrease unemployment and strengthen the country's economy. Providing young people with opportunities to become self-reliant through skills development could help build a prosperous Bangladesh.
Promoting Self-Employment Over Job Seeking
The minister also stressed the importance of creating self-employment opportunities instead of simply seeking jobs. He said that if trained youths are provided with the necessary work equipment, they will be able to turn their skills into practical work. This would not only improve their families' livelihoods but also contribute to the local economy.
At the event, 25 people received job certificates from EIT, while 50 trainees who had completed training in various trades received work equipment. The ceremony was chaired by EIT Director Nazmul Alam Naju and attended by several dignitaries, including Executive Chairman of the National Skill Development Authority Dr Nazneen Kausar Chowdhury, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Md Shamsuzzaman Samu, and others.
The initiative reflects a broader effort by the government to address youth unemployment through skills development and self-employment. By promoting technical education and providing practical training, the government aims to create a skilled workforce that can contribute to the country's economic growth and reduce dependency on foreign employment.
