The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, commemorating the birth and death anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), is being observed across Bangladesh today with due religious solemnity. On this day, the 12th of Rabiul Awal, Muslims worldwide celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad in 570 AD in Makkah and his passing in 632 AD on the same date. The government has organized extensive national-level programs to mark the occasion. Special prayers are being offered at mosques nationwide, and various cultural and educational events are being held to honor the Prophet's teachings. President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued messages greeting Muslims worldwide.
The Islamic Foundation has initiated a fortnight program titled 'Siratunnabi (PBUH) Programme' at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, featuring Islamic sermons, seminars, and discussions. The program, running from August 25 to September 8, includes competitions in qirat, hamd-naat, recitation of self-composed poems, and Arabic essay writing. Additionally, an Islamic cultural competition, calligraphy exhibition, and a month-long Islamic book fair are being organized. Renowned Islamic scholars will deliver sermons daily from after Maghrib to 10:00pm. These events aim to instill morality, humanity, tolerance, and peace by following the ideals and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Bangladesh missions abroad are observing the day with due respect, and relevant ministries have been instructed to maintain peace and law and order. Divisional, district, and upazila administrations, city corporations, municipalities, and the armed forces are holding discussions and doa mahfils. Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and other electronic media are broadcasting special programs, while newspapers have published supplements. The Bangladesh Shishu Academy has arranged special programs for children, including hamd-naat, discussions, and essay competitions. Major city points are decorated with national and colorful flags, along with banners inscribed with the Kalima Tayyiba. Improved diets are being served at military and civil hospitals, prisons, government orphanages, child development centers, and old-age homes.
