Newly appointed Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rashid has affirmed that the police are diligently working to uncover the motive behind the quadruple murders that occurred in the city last week. The Commissioner emphasized the police's responsibility to find answers to all questions surrounding the murders and to bring those involved to justice. He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting the scene of the crime at Machhuapara area.

Investigation Underway

Commissioner Rashid highlighted that the investigation into this sensitive case is being conducted seriously. "Our goal is to collect all evidences and bring everything to light and submit a charge sheet to the court to ensure justice," he said. All necessary technical and intelligence support is being utilized for the investigation. He also invited the public to share any new clues that might assist in the investigation.

The victims, a retired popular teacher of Rangpur Zilla School Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty Bhola, 50, daughter Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, 25 and son Ayush Chakraborty Priyam, 12, were found strangled to death at their house on August 21 night. The bodies were recovered on Saturday night and handed over to their families after the autopsy. A murder case was filed against unknown killers with Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station.

Arrests and Broader Concerns

Two alleged killers, Mugdha Das, 23, and Siddhartha Das, 19, both from the Machhuapara area, were arrested by the police. They reportedly gave confessional statements under Section 164 before the Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The Detective Branch (DB) has been entrusted with the investigation, with OC of the RpMP's Detective Branch Zeenat Ali appointed as the new investigation officer.

Addressing broader concerns, Commissioner Rashid noted that drugs are not just a problem of Rangpur but a national and social issue. He mentioned having already convened with officials to discuss strategies to combat this problem.

The quadruple murder has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting increased vigilance and efforts by the police to ensure the safety and security of residents. The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing violent crimes and the importance of a thorough and transparent investigation process.
