In response to widespread allegations, Jahangirnagar University (JU) has formed a committee to investigate research papers published by its researchers that were later retracted from international journals. The committee, led by Prof Dr. Mahbub Kabir, will determine the validity of the claims and submit a report within 30 days.

Committee Members and Their Roles

The investigation committee comprises experts from various faculties within the university. Prof Dr. Mohammad Zahidur Rahman from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof Dr. Md. Salequl Islam from the Department of Microbiology, Associate Prof Mohammad Mamun Or Rashid from the Department of Bangla, and Deputy Registrar (General Administration) Md. Mahtab-Uz-Zahid, who will serve as the member secretary.

The committee has been tasked with uncovering the facts behind the retractions, assessing the credibility of the allegations, and presenting recommendations in their report. This move comes after recent allegations published in newspapers drew significant attention, prompting the university administration to initiate a formal investigation.

Context and Importance of the Investigation

The establishment of this committee underscores the university's commitment to maintaining academic integrity and addressing any potential misconduct. The investigation aims to ensure transparency and uphold the credibility of JU's research output on a global platform.

Retracted papers can have serious implications for the researchers involved, the university’s reputation, and the broader academic community. By thoroughly investigating the allegations, JU aims to restore confidence in its research practices and maintain its standing in the international academic arena.

The university has a responsibility to protect the integrity of its research and ensure that all published work meets the highest standards of academic excellence. This investigation is a critical step towards achieving that goal.
