In a bid to strengthen its cyber capabilities, Bangladesh Police is looking to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for enhanced support. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir highlighted the need for deeper collaboration with the FBI during a meeting with a two-member delegation led by Riley Palmertree.

Need for Enhanced Cyber Cooperation

The meeting, held at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, focused on expanding support in several critical areas. These include cyber capacity building, tackling cyber scams, monitoring social media, combating financial crimes, and strengthening technology-driven investigations. The IGP emphasized that the collaboration should extend to specialized units such as the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

The growing threat of cyber scams, financial crimes, and online misinformation has necessitated this strategic partnership. The IGP also underscored the need for greater FBI assistance in preventing online misinformation and other emerging digital threats.

Strategic Areas of Collaboration

During the discussions, the FBI delegation explored ways to enhance Bangladesh Police's cyber capabilities. This includes providing training, sharing intelligence, and leveraging advanced technologies. The aim is to create a robust framework to effectively combat cybercrime, ensuring the safety and security of digital spaces.

The IGP's call for intensified collaboration reflects the global nature of cybercrime, which often transcends national boundaries. By working closely with the FBI, Bangladesh Police hopes to stay ahead of cybercriminals and protect its citizens from online threats.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to further discussions and action plans to strengthen the partnership between the FBI and Bangladesh Police.
