The Zia Smriti Book Fair-2026, a nine-day event dedicated to the life and legacy of Ziaur Rahman and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), observed its second day at the Bangla Academy. This fair, which aligns with the 48th founding anniversary of the BNP, will remain open to the public until September 11. The event features a wide array of books on Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and other political figures.

Highlighted Titles and Authors

Mahmud Bin Sharif from Genius Publication highlighted notable titles such as 'Sonali Yug-er Ziaur Rahman' by Jahangir Shikdar, 'Bir Uttam Ziaur Rahman' and 'Tarique Rahman-er Bhabnay Parbatya Chattagram' by Md Sohidul Islam Suman, and 'Nari Shikkhay Begum Khaleda Zia' by Shahed Shafiq. Author Sohidul Islam Suman presented two of his books as gifts to Dr Zubaida Rahman on the opening day.

Visitor Feedback and Book Demand

Alamgir Hossain, a psychologist visiting the fair, expressed concern about the young generation's declining interest in reading books. He noted that many young people post unverified information on social media without fact-checking, attributing this to their reluctance to read. Mohammad Saim Khan, managing book sales at the fair, reported high demand for the book 'Amra Sobai Zia Hobo'. Visitors showed keen interest, browsing through various titles and making purchases.

Special Guests and Discussions

Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman attended a discussion organized by Zia Smriti Pathagar and Jatiyatabadi Prokashana Songstha as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the book fair will stand as a milestone for nationalist politics and secure a unique place in history. Kader Gani Chowdhury, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), addressed the program as a special guest, remarking that Ziaur Rahman envisioned a cultural awakening in the country. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam emphasized the importance of books and the need to cultivate a habit of reading.
