Dhaka ranked fourth in air pollution among 122 global cities today, according to IQAir. The city's air quality index (AQI) stood at 134 at 8:30 AM, categorized as 'unhealthy for sensitive groups.' Sensitive groups include the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with illnesses.
The Swiss-based organization IQAir regularly monitors air pollution levels. The AQI provides real-time information on air quality, alerting people to the cleanliness or pollution of the air in a specific city. Today, Kampala in Uganda topped the list with an AQI of 173.
Eight areas in Dhaka showed particularly poor air quality. Agargaon had the highest AQI at 147, followed by Baridhara Park Road (145), Baridhara Lake Side (139), Gulshan Lake Park (137), Becharram Deuri (123), Uttar Badda Abdullahbag (123), Gulshan's Be'z Age Water (112), and Gulshan's Grace International School (102).
IQAir advised wearing masks when going outside, especially for sensitive groups. It also recommended avoiding outdoor exercise and keeping windows closed as much as possible.
