Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to complete a comprehensive and transparent database of farmers by December. The directive aims to ensure that government support through the 'Farmer Card' program reaches genuine beneficiaries. During a meeting at the Prime Minister's Office, Rahman emphasized the importance of a proper verification process to safeguard farmers' rights. The 'Farmer Card' will feature the holder's photograph and a QR code, containing information on identity, agricultural production, government assistance, and market-related services.
The government plans to distribute the cards in phases after completing necessary preparations, including opening bank accounts for farmers. The initiative aims to deliver subsidies, loans, incentives, and other support quickly and efficiently to farmers. The government expects to issue cards to 43 lakh farmers this fiscal year and plans to cover nearly 2 crore farmers over the next three years.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Agriculture Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, and State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam. The program is crucial for enhancing agricultural support and ensuring that subsidies and loans reach those who need them most.
This initiative reflects the government's commitment to modernizing agricultural support systems and improving the livelihoods of farmers. By ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive support, the government aims to increase efficiency and reduce corruption in the distribution of agricultural aid.
