Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram has called for the creation of a discrimination-free, democratic, and justice-based Bangladesh, drawing inspiration from the July Mass Uprising. In a message issued on the eve of July Mass Uprising Day-2026, he emphasized the need for a united effort to achieve a humane and prosperous nation, free from fascism, autocracy, and extremism.
Significance of the July Mass Uprising
The July Mass Uprising marked the end of prolonged discriminatory and fascist rule in Bangladesh. It was a movement driven by unarmed students and citizens who resisted against misrule, discrimination, corruption, and the suppression of democracy and human rights. The uprising, which took place on August 5, 2024, resulted in the fall of the fascist government and the beginning of a new era for the nation.
Call for Justice and Reforms
Ahmad highlighted the sacrifices made by the martyrs and the injured during the uprising, including individuals like Abu Sayed, Mugdha, Wasim, Yamin, Farhan, Nafiz, Taim, Naima, child Riya Gop, and Ahad. He stressed the importance of honoring their memory by ensuring impartial trials for those responsible for killings and crimes against humanity during the uprising. The acting president also called for necessary reforms in state administration to ensure good governance, public interest, and accountability.
In his message, Ahmad extended heartfelt greetings to the July Warriors and all patriotic citizens. He urged the nation to work together to realize the dreams and aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives for a better Bangladesh. The acting president assured that the welfare of the families of the martyrs and the injured would be ensured, along with their treatment and rehabilitation.
