On August 5, 2026, Bogura District observed July Mass Uprising Day with a ceremony dedicated to the families of martyrs and injured protesters from the 2024 uprising. The event, held at the Shaheed Titu Auditorium, included a reception, discussion meeting, and a wreath-laying ceremony at the July Memorial in Satmatha.
Honoring the Martyrs and Injured
Representatives from the district administration and invited guests participated in the ceremony, presenting gifts to the families of those killed and injured during the July 2024 uprising. Among the attendees were prominent political figures such as Bogura-6 Member of Parliament Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha and Bogura-4 Member of Parliament Mosharaf Hossain.
Call for Unity and Justice
Speaking as the chief guest, Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha highlighted the historical significance of the 2024 movement, which he described as a continuation of the legacy of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War, and the 1990 anti-autocracy movement. He emphasized the movement's goals of establishing a democratic, secular, and discrimination-free Bangladesh, free from fascism.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Toufiqur Rahman encouraged attendees to practice self-reflection and urged everyone to demonstrate patriotism through actions, integrity, cleanliness, and standing against injustice.
Personal Stories of Sacrifice
Samiul Islam Siam, who sustained 65 bullet injuries during the July uprising, shared his experiences, stressing that ordinary people joined the movement to build a society free from discrimination rather than for financial gain.
Day-Long Commemoration Activities
The day's events also included a photography exhibition and various programs organized by political and social organizations. The district administration laid floral wreaths at the July Memorial at 9:30 am, and a series of activities were held throughout the day.
