Home Minister and Chairman of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Constitutional Amendment, Salahuddin Ahmed, announced today that the constitution will be amended through consensus to meet the expectations of the people and advance democratic reforms. The amendment will be formulated based on consensus, reflecting the aspirations of the people and contributing to stronger democratic governance.
Broad Consultations Planned
The proposed amendment will incorporate democratic reform commitments as part of Bangladesh's new journey and the evolving process of state restructuring. Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the amendment proposal will be prepared through consultations with all political parties and other relevant stakeholders.
Inclusion of Opposition
Regarding opposition participation, Salahuddin Ahmed mentioned that the names of five members nominated by the opposition for inclusion in the committee have not yet been received. Once submitted, they will be included, and discussions will be held with them. The committee will remain open to receiving opinions from all opposition parties and members, both inside and outside parliament.
Phased Consultations
Salahuddin Ahmed said consultations will be held in phases with representatives from different professions, professionals, and other interested stakeholders. The scope of consultations may be expanded if necessary, although no specific schedule has been finalized. Issues from the July National Charter and other political discussions will be considered.
