Bangladesh Reports Two Additional Child Deaths with Measles Symptoms

The measles outbreak in Bangladesh shows no signs of abating as two more children have died with measles symptoms.

Two more children have died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths among children with suspected measles to 654 since March 15.

Rising Infection Rates

During the same period, 946 new measles infections were reported, with 818 of these being suspected cases and 128 confirmed cases. This raises the total number of suspected measles cases to 108,998 and confirmed cases to 13,198 since the outbreak began.

Hospital Admissions and Recoveries

Since March 15, a total of 92,031 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals. Of these, 88,419 patients have recovered and been discharged. The ongoing outbreak continues to strain healthcare resources across the country.

Death Toll

While no deaths from confirmed measles were reported in the last 24 hours, the cumulative death toll from confirmed measles stands at 93 since March 15. The high number of deaths among children with suspected measles symptoms underscores the severity of the outbreak.

Public Health Response

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is actively monitoring the situation and issuing regular updates. Efforts are underway to increase vaccination rates and raise public awareness about the importance of measles immunization.
