In a swift operation early this morning, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 successfully rescued a 14-year-old schoolgirl and arrested three alleged abductors in Gaibandha. The victim, a ninth-grade student, had been abducted on July 31 by Md Bellal Hossain and his associates while she was on her way to school.
According to the girl's father, Bellal had been harassing the victim with unwanted romantic proposals. After she rejected him and informed her parents, he allegedly threatened her. On the morning of July 31, Bellal and his associates forced the girl into an auto-rickshaw and took her to an undisclosed location. A kidnapping case was filed with the Sundarganj police station on August 5.
Acting on a tip-off, RAB-13 conducted a raid in Dakshin Samas village around 12:45am on Monday, leading to the arrest of Md Bellal Hossain, 33, his brother Md Bidyut Hossain, 28, and Md Babul Hossain, 35. The suspects were handed over to the Sundarganj police for further legal action.
The rescued girl has been reunited with her family, and the incident highlights the persistent issue of harassment and abduction in rural areas. Local authorities have been urged to take stronger measures to ensure the safety of students and to bring perpetrators to justice swiftly.
Community members have expressed relief at the girl's safe recovery and praised the police for their prompt action. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by young students and the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
