Bangladesh Attorney General Introduces New Law Officers to Honor Founding Leaders

On the anniversary of their passing, Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazol and new law officers visited the graves of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia.

On August 4, 2026, a solemn ceremony took place at the mausoleum complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazol, alongside newly appointed deputy and assistant attorney generals, paid floral tributes and offered prayers at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The visit began with the laying of floral wreaths at the graves of Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, and Arafat Rahman Koko. Among those accompanying the Attorney General were Additional Attorney Generals Mohammad Arshadur Rouf and Barrister Aneek R Haque, as well as several newly appointed deputy and assistant attorney generals.

In a statement to the press, the Attorney General emphasized the profound impact that Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia had on Bangladesh's legal system, constitution, democracy, and human rights. He particularly highlighted Khaleda Zia's role in establishing an independent judiciary.

The Attorney General vowed that the law officers would continue to uphold the principles and ideals of democracy, human rights, justice, and professionalism championed by these leaders. He noted that lawyers across the country daily witness the enduring legacy of their contributions.

The gathering was not just a mark of respect but a reaffirmation of the commitment to the values that Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia stood for. The ceremony concluded with prayers for the departed souls, marking a poignant moment in the nation's ongoing journey towards a just and democratic society.
