Left-leaning student organizations, Chhatra Union and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, have rejected the proposed national budget for 2026-27, criticizing it for neglecting education, employment, and health sectors. The organizations claim the budget fails to address the core issues of cost of living, job creation, and inequality reduction. They argue that the budget does not provide a realistic plan to control high inflation or create employment opportunities. The student unions have called for increased allocation in education, health, food, and employment sectors while reducing funds for unproductive sectors.
Chhatra Union's Rejection
Chhatra Union, a left-leaning student organization, has rejected the proposed budget, terming it as 'traditional, anti-people, debt-dependent, and inequality-enhancing.' The organization's leaders, Tamjid Haider Chanchal and Shimul Kumbhakar, stated that the budget lacks a realistic plan to reduce the cost of living and create new employment opportunities. They criticized the budget for increasing taxes on locally produced liquor, calling it a reflection of a dual policy—revenue generation on one hand and market distortion under the guise of control on the other.
Samajtantrik Chhatra Front's Criticism
Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, another left-leaning student organization, has also criticized the proposed budget for failing to address fundamental issues such as education, health, and employment. The organization's leaders, Salman Siddiqui and Rafiquzzaman Farid, stated that the budget lacks a clear plan for job creation and neglects the development of national capabilities. They called for a shift from anti-people policies that benefit the wealthy, black money owners, and bureaucrats, to policies that allocate appropriate funds for public welfare sectors and reduce allocations for unproductive sectors.
