In a recent event, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon highlighted Begum Khaleda Zia's enduring legacy as a symbol of leadership and democracy. He credited her for her pivotal role in the fight against autocracy and the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.

A Legacy of Unwavering Commitment

Swapon emphasized Begum Khaleda Zia's contributions from the movement against the Ershad regime to the establishment of the caretaker government system. He praised her unwavering dedication to the people's rights, despite facing immense oppression.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of a book titled 'July Andolon Ebong Gulibiddho Dui Chokh' by Sayema Zerin, Swapon highlighted the importance of political maturity and creativity in governance. He noted that while dismantling old systems requires strength, rebuilding demands a different set of skills.

Connecting Historical Struggles

The minister drew a parallel between the Liberation War of 1971 and the July Mass Uprising of 2024, both aimed at establishing the rights of the people and social justice. He urged vigilance against divisive elements attempting to undermine these historical movements.

Swapon reaffirmed the government's commitment to an active parliamentary system, emphasizing the need for accountability and open debate. He warned against the dangers of societal blindness that could pave the way for authoritarianism.

The event, held at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the National Museum, was attended by notable figures including State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, lawmaker Helen Zerin Khan, and BNP Joint Organising Secretary Khondokar Mashukur Rahman. Family members of July Martyrs and injured fighters also shared their experiences.
