Tensions have arisen among locals in Jamalpur's Bakshiganj upazila due to an individual standing at the zero line of the Satanipara border. On Friday afternoon, locals prevented the middle-aged individual from entering Bangladesh from the zero line. The individual has been standing at the zero line since then.
In the afternoon, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) visited the scene. However, both sides left the individual at the zero line.
Assistant Director Imam Hossain of Jamalpur's 35 BGB Battalion stated that there was no attempt at a push-in. The individual is a local resident and mentally unstable, possibly arriving there while wandering around. BSF members arrived after noticing the individual at the zero line. Later, both BSF and BGB members left the scene. This cannot be considered a push-in incident.
Local residents mentioned that several individuals were engaged in agricultural activities in the border area when they noticed the individual entering Bangladesh from the Indian border. Locals intervened, and the individual has been standing at the zero line since then. More locals gathered upon hearing the news. BSF and BGB members later arrived, questioned the individual briefly, and then left. The individual and locals have remained at the scene since then.
Previously, on Tuesday night, BSF attempted a push-in at the Rahimpur border of Dewanganj upazila, but the attempt failed due to the alertness of BGB and local residents. On Thursday afternoon, 60-year-old Shasthichand Barman, pushed by BSF at the DhanuaKamalpur border of Bakshiganj upazila, was handed over to his family.
BGB officer Imam Hossain stated that no push-in or other untoward incidents occurred in Jamalpur's border areas from morning to afternoon. The border area is currently calm.
