DHAKA - Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon today underscored that technical education is indispensable for transforming Bangladesh into a developed nation. Speaking as the chief guest at the 'Commemoration of the Historic July Mass Uprising and Creative Student Award' programme held at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, Milon highlighted the government's comprehensive plan to turn the country's population into valuable human resources. He urged students to move beyond conventional education and embrace technical skills to meet global demands.
'The fascist Awami League wanted to destroy the country. But during July and August, our new generation, risking their lives, saved the country from that destruction,' Milon said, recalling the sacrifices made during the July Mass Uprising. He emphasized that with technical education, the country's expatriate workers could significantly contribute to the economy, thereby making it more prosperous and stronger.
Milon announced the government's plan to establish four more engineering colleges to modernize and expand technical education. He expressed his determination to develop Dhaka Government Polytechnic Institute into a model institution. Addressing the students, he encouraged them to acquire greater innovative capabilities and work with commitment to build a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh in the future.
The programme, chaired by Principal of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute Md Mustafizur Rahman Khan, was attended by Member of Parliament for Reserved Women's Seat-16 Sanzida Islam Tuli, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Abul Khayer Md Akkas Ali, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board Engineer Md Ruhul Amin. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Md Rakibul Islam Rakib addressed the programme as the chief discussant.
After the commemoration, the minister handed over honorary crests to the family members of martyrs Hamidur Rahman Majumdar and Samid Hossain, who were killed during the July Mass Uprising. He also draped ceremonial shawls over injured students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute. Earlier in the day, Milon virtually attended the Orientation-2026 programme of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, where he expressed his vision to develop IU into a center of excellence.
