In a significant gesture of support for religious institutions, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today handed over financial assistance to mosques, madrassas, and temples in the Dhaka-17 constituency. The ceremony took place at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan, where cheques were distributed to representatives of the respective institutions. A total of 28 mosques received Taka 2.47 lakh each, while 10 Hindu temples were granted Taka 3 lakh each.

The financial assistance to mosques is intended to support the ongoing activities of these religious institutions, ensuring they can continue their vital community roles. For the temples, the funds were specifically designated to help arrange the upcoming Durga Puja, one of the most significant Hindu festivals, ensuring its smooth and successful celebration.

Deputy Press Secretary Md. Suzauddhowla (Sujon Mahmud) elaborated on the importance of this assistance, stating that it aims to strengthen the community’s religious and cultural fabric. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the diverse religious landscape of Bangladesh, fostering harmony and mutual respect among different communities.

Durga Puja, celebrated in October, is a major festival for the Hindu community, marked by elaborate rituals, cultural programs, and community gatherings. The financial aid will help temples cover the costs associated with organizing the festival, from decorations and pandals to community feasts and religious ceremonies.

Similarly, the assistance to mosques underscores the government’s ongoing support for Islamic institutions, enabling them to maintain their facilities, organize religious programs, and provide community services. This support is crucial for the mosques to fulfill their roles as centers of worship, education, and community engagement.

The Prime Minister’s initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that all religious communities in Bangladesh receive the necessary support to practice their faith and celebrate their traditions. By providing this financial assistance, the government aims to promote religious harmony and ensure that all communities can thrive and contribute to the nation’s cultural diversity.
