A tragic accident at a madrasa in Bagerhat district has resulted in the death of one worker and injury to another. The incident happened when a section of the wall of an under-construction septic tank suddenly gave way, burying the two workers. Local residents initiated rescue efforts, which were later joined by the Morelganj Fire Service and Civil Defence. After approximately an hour, the body of Atiar Rahman, 35, was recovered, while his injured colleague, Nayan, was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The collapse occurred at the premises of Gulishakhali Fazil Madrasa near Gulishakhali Bazar. According to the Morelganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Team Leader Md Golam Faruk, the rescue team responded to the emergency after receiving a call through the national emergency service 999. Continuous rain and a large crowd at the site complicated the rescue efforts.

The deceased, Atiar Rahman, was the son of Badrul Alam and a resident of Agrail village in Jessore district. Meanwhile, Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mahmudur Rahman confirmed that legal procedures are being followed and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse.

This incident highlights the importance of stringent safety measures during construction activities, particularly in densely populated areas. Construction-related accidents are not uncommon in Bangladesh, often due to inadequate safety protocols and oversight.

As Bangladesh continues to grow, ensuring worker safety in construction sites remains a critical issue that demands attention and action from authorities and stakeholders alike.
