Ukrainian military strikes on Crimea have resulted in power outages in Sevastopol, the region's largest city, according to reports from both sides. This comes as Ukraine steps up its efforts to sever the peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Impact on Sevastopol
Sevastopol's Moscow-installed governor, Mikhail Razvozhayev, has urged residents to assist vulnerable neighbors and conserve phone battery for emergency communications to prevent overloading the grid. He noted that some areas of the city, where temperatures are nearing 30°C, would remain without power until at least Wednesday evening.
Broader Consequences
The strikes have forced Crimea to suspend fuel sales to the public as Ukraine targets Russian logistics to the region. Additionally, a series of oil refineries and depots across southern Russia, which supply Crimea, have been hit.
Escalating Conflict
Separate Ukrainian drone attacks resulted in casualties in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod and Belgorod regions. In response, a Russian drone attack killed a woman in Ukraine's Kharkiv region. Russia's defense ministry claims to have destroyed over 300 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Kyiv's air force reported shooting down 95 out of 101 drones launched by Moscow.
Stalled Peace Efforts
US-led talks aimed at ending the conflict have remained frozen, with Washington's focus diverted to the Middle East following strikes on Iran in late February.
