Newly appointed Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Md Saidur Rahman Khan, has asserted that sustainable development can only be achieved by eradicating corruption. Speaking to journalists after assuming his role, Khan highlighted that preventing corruption is essential for establishing good governance. 'To establish good governance, the most important issue is preventing corruption. If we are to achieve sustainable development, corruption must be sent into exile,' he stated.
Commitment to Transform ACC
Khan expressed his dedication to transforming the ACC into an efficient, effective, and people-oriented institution capable of combating corruption. 'We want to undertake programmes that will enable people to benefit from the ACC's services while ensuring the proper protection and utilization of state resources,' he added. His immediate priorities include gaining a comprehensive understanding of the commission's ongoing activities, consulting with officials and employees, and potentially launching priority-based 'crash programmes.'
Addressing Public Perception and Independence
Recognizing the ACC's past criticisms and negative public image, Khan committed to changing this perception. 'The ACC has long faced criticism and suffered from a negative image. We want to change that perception and transform the institution into one that is more people-friendly and enjoys public confidence. We will work together with honesty and dedication to achieve that goal,' he said. Regarding allegations of political influence, Khan assured that the ACC would operate independently in accordance with the Constitution and the law, serving the interests of the law and the people, not any individual or government.
