Waterlogging at Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall areas of Dhaka University (DU) has been completely resolved following swift and effective measures taken by the university and hall administrations, a DU press release said. The overall situation, including electricity supply at the halls and the regular life of the students, has returned to normal. The university authorities have urged all concerned not to panic over the situation.
Postponement of Examinations
Meanwhile, all pre-scheduled internal examinations of the university for today have been postponed due to the inclement weather.
Formation of Emergency Committee
To address any emergency during disasters and ensure prompt remedial action, a 7-member committee has been formed with DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane as its convener. Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, will serve as the member-secretary of the committee.
Vice-Chancellor's Visit
Earlier, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam visited Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall to inspect the situation. Pro-VC (Admin) Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, along with the provosts of the respective halls and members of the proctorial team, accompanied the VC during the visit.
Tireless Efforts to Resolve Waterlogging
Notably, the DU administration and hall authorities had been working tirelessly since Sunday morning to drain out the water, restore electricity, and ensure safe drinking water in the affected hall areas. Under the leadership of the Pro-VC (Admin), a joint effort involving WASA, DPDC, the City Corporation, and the university’s Engineering Department successfully cleared the waterlogging, restored power supply, and ensured clean drinking water by Sunday night.
Support for Students
The hall administrations distributed adequate candles, mineral water, and mosquito coils to the students last night (July 12). Additionally, food arrangements were made for the students this morning (July 13). The university and hall administrations have reiterated their commitment to always stand by the students to address any crisis or mitigate any problems.
