In Brahmanbaria's Bancharampur, a fan has made a nearly 5 km flag to express his love for the South Korean football team. People from far and wide are gathering to see the massive flag.
Abu Kausar (55), a resident of Khalla village in Darikandi Union, Bancharampur Upazila, Brahmanbaria, is the fan. He and his family members shared that he went to South Korea in 1998 in search of livelihood. In 2002, he watched the World Cup matches held in South Korea from the stadium's gallery. He was captivated by the sports skills of the then famous player Anjuwan, and since then, he has become a fan of the South Korean football team. He returned to his country in 2013 and established a restaurant named Peace Korea Cafe in his village. The cups, plates, and mugs in the restaurant feature the South Korean team's flag. Although he returned from South Korea a long time ago, his love for the country's football team has not diminished.
During the 2018 Football World Cup, Abu Kausar first hung a 1 km long South Korean flag in the Bimanbandar pedestrian-bridge area in Dhaka. Before the 2022 World Cup, he hung a nearly 4 km long South Korean flag from his home in Khalla village to the neighboring Tejkhali West Para. This time, he has increased it by another 1 km, making a 5 km long flag. This time, he spent around 7 lakh taka, which he paid from his restaurant's earnings. He has hung the flag along the Khalla Bishnu Rampur to Bahadur via Khalla West Para road.
Abu Kausar says his efforts are driven by his love for South Korea and its football team. His family and neighbors are encouraging him in this endeavor. Neighbor Aminul Islam says, 'After coming back from Korea, Abu Kausar's attachment to that country has increased. We are also encouraging him. We want Korea to have a good result in this World Cup. I wish for Korea team's success.' Another village resident, Nazrul Islam, says, 'Abu Kausar was abroad for a long time. He still has a lot of emotions for that country. He has a special attachment and love for that country, which is why he has hung an even bigger flag this time.'
