Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali today emphasized the police's commitment to serving the public, stating their goal is to be 'people's police, not oppressors.' Speaking at a meet-the-press programme, he highlighted that public satisfaction is the true measure of police performance. 'If the general public is satisfied with the police's service and conduct, it means we are carrying out our responsibilities properly,' he said.

Public Participation in Policing

The commissioner stressed the importance of public participation in maintaining law and order, noting that effective policing depends on close cooperation between citizens and law enforcement. 'The greater the public's engagement with the police, the more effectively we can perform our duties,' he added.

Police Accountability and Media Role

Referring to police accountability, Hasan said the public should judge the force by its actions and behavior rather than by perception alone. He also described journalists as the mirror of society, urging that media reports highlighting police activities should not be viewed negatively. Instead, such reports should be analyzed constructively to identify shortcomings and improve policing.

Event Details

The programme was organized by the Chattogram Press Club at the VIP Lounge of the CMP Commissioner's Office. Press Club President Zahidul Karim Kochi presided over the event, while General Secretary Golam Maula Murad moderated it. Joint Secretary Meah Mohammed Arif delivered the welcome address.
