KHULNA - State Minister for Forests, Environment and Climate Change Dr. Shaikh Faridul Islam has declared that the construction of Khan Jahan Ali Airport is crucial for easing communication in the southwest region and for expanding trade, commerce, and tourism. Speaking at the airport site in Foila, Bagerhat, he emphasized that once operational, the airport will bring unprecedented momentum to the economic activities of Mongla Port, the Sundarbans, and the entire southwest region.

During his visit, Dr. Faridul Islam assured that the government is committed to resuming construction work at the earliest to ensure international standards and modern facilities. He criticized the previous government for overlooking the project, which was initially introduced by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and depriving the people of the region from its benefits.

Dr. Faridul Islam also noted that there have been fruitful discussions with Chinese investors for the project, who have shown keen interest in contributing to its development. The inspection was attended by Bagerhat Zila Parishad Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, KDA Chief Engineer Kazi Sabirul Alam, Rampal Upazila BNP President Alhaj Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Tuhin, Mongla Upazila BNP President Md. Mannan Hawlader, and other local leaders and representatives of affiliated organizations.

The proposed Khan Jahan Ali Airport is expected to serve as a vital link for the region, facilitating easier access to Mongla Port and the Sundarbans. This development is anticipated to attract more tourists and boost local businesses, ultimately contributing to the economic growth of the area.

With international investors showing interest and the government's renewed commitment, the project is poised to make significant strides. The completion of Khan Jahan Ali Airport is seen as a pivotal moment for the southwest region, promising enhanced connectivity and economic opportunities.
